This is NOT a complaint.

I want to introduce you to my best friend, Murphy Law. When i suddenly got ready to finally saw the end of my thesis a few good days away. He found me to work projects within a week. One of which involves Editing and i have a ‘due date’ for it… 3 wks later now Thanks to Murphy i have 6 projects. Just so you know i’m happy about the work. Vacation in a few weeks in AZ. More on that later.

so, february is always a tricky month for biking. I have gone the entire month without biking before. Wednesda may have been one sloppy mess. But they way i see it is that it’s just water, not snow. I was doing the swamp on friday. And saturday i averaged 8mph, extremely proud of that. Btw, it was doing a bit more than a Sprinkle for the last 45min.

Question: Should i take this blog onto a website so non-fb people can also enjoy it? (this would not effect my use of this page). Please share your thoughts below.

It’s been a bit since I’ve posted. I’ve made progress on my movie. I just completed the one ‘special effects’ clip. Don’t get your hopes up, just had to cover something up in the background. But forced me to learn something new. I’m waiting on someone who is helping me on one shot, and my composure. Only other thing is credits.

my next never-ending non-paying project will be to tackle the nightmare that is my family videos. Why is it at nightmare? Because I created the folder 5yrs before i was taught the most important rule of editing… Organization. I basically have a junk drawer with over 9000 items in it. And i’m ready to face the reality that it is a matter of ‘what will be a bigger headache’ as to ‘…time’.

biking seems to be starting back up. Today i did the swamp for the 3 time since last tues. Should be 4 but had a minor sprang sunday

It’s been just over 3 months & i’m over a 100 likes. Sometime soon, i’d ‘like’ to make a blog site so my friends who don’t do fb can see it too.

Thanks to all my likers!!!

For Studio461 these two weeks before christmas are my busy season. I don’t like how people leave everything until the last minute. Business is always busy now.

I now have posted that Studio461 will be closed December 23, 2017 until January 8, 2018. During that time, I will try to do some serious work on my movie— which I hope will be completed January 15, 2018. There is nothing special about that date, but I am sick of working on it. I also will be away skiing January 2, 2018 to January 6, 2018.

Not only do I have skiing to look forward too, but I also have tonight to look forward too— tonight is the premier of Star Wars the Last Jedi. I will be attending the opening night movie with my brother Jeff.

Big news people. I got my first real editingjob from a company this week. And posted Studio461’s first job through FDU’s career development office. I’ve got enough evidence that social media marketing works that I figure that i’d try to hire someone to do it. That way i can focus on doing the work and someone who actually knows what their doing can do the marketing.

On the biking front, i’m finally getti6i use to the cold. Did swamp monday tuesday and wednesday. Had to go to bathroom half hour before my 630 bike alarm today, so decided not to bike and had mom wake me at 8

Things are looking up.

I finally got on my biketues after 12 days. I did 12 miles. Being sick for about 2 weeks when you work at home, not fun. Got hooked on a few shows: Speechless, The Good Doctor, and Stranger Things. My excuse to dad is ‘it’s my industry, therefore it’s ALL research’. He doesn’t quite buy that for some reason.

anyway, fri i finally got my film colored to the point that i’m willing to see what my editing prof thinks.

Ok, ok, so I may not be the most consitant blogger. I’m still biking a ton. Yesterday it was still wet in the morning, so I slept till 920. I got out a bit later, and stayed around town. I only did 11.8mi, which i’d like to think of as a victory. I’ve been so focused on going for distance that I sometimes haven’t gone out because i can’t do the full ride.Today, first day i got out the official bikePants.

on the film front this was a busy weekend for Studio461. I created my first holiday commerical which i have made a Paid facebook ad. And i’m going to try adding slides to my list of services.

Sorry that the posts have slowed down. It hasn’t been the best of weeks. I had a potential intern that never canceled his/her interview and turn out to have some mental issue; or something. So yeah… How was your week?

Actually there were some good things. The Yankees are up on the Astros. I have done the Swamp 5 of the last 6 days. I finished the first round of color correction, and now need to recolor the first group of scenes since I decided the look mid-way through. Finally, I started a project that is turning out to be easier than expected.

This is just an idea, but I’m sort of wondering if I should create an informal group of advisers for my business that I can email ideas about Studio461. A small group of people that have diversity. What do you guys think?

Erin Skotarczak Absolutely Tim Doran. I’m not sure how you go about finding the right people….. but in my experience- most people enjoy and get a sense of fulfillment from teaching or mentoring others. It’s worth a shot.

I did the swamp for the 2nd day in a row today. For those who aren’t aware, my goal was to make the swamp my new normal ride once i hit 20mi to avoid loops. As i turned in to the swamp, i thought about how different this is from the desert yet God put both environments on the same land mass…WOW

On the film end, i set a timer for 90min 3 days in the last week and got close to half my film colored. My secret, do it at beginning of day, before i ride. However, i love my morning rides.

Josephine Scharf I think many people are rushing through the day and don’t look around to see the wonderful views around us. Thanks for the reminder to appreciate the beauty and variety of our landscape . I totally understand why you want to ride around the swamp….my little walk over the same NP streets over the years makes it more likely that I don’t look around. Maybe I should change my routine as well!

Part of that is getting work done before going on ride. Did that yesterday, had to stop due to hip issue (still did 10mi). And did 19 today after 3pm, all i’

I sorta hinted at this Friday, it takes me at least 3-4 times/effort to do everything that you do. Due to that, I’m going to reduce my posting to 1 or 2 posts a week of longer then a sentence.

Those who have wanted to hear other part of my biking story, here it is. I can’t drive, so biking has given me a sense of independence. I don’t want to say that it is why I started riding, cause it’s not. However, that is probably why I ended up biking all-year-round. After high school, I got trapped by anxiety for years (or what seemed like years), and if it wasn’t for cycling (and Christ’s love) I probably wouldn’t be here now. While I can’t say independence isn’t still part of it but I ride more for the fun of it and to get closer to my goal of going across the country. went 19.4mi today

Erin Skotarczak Hi Tim! I saw you cycling as I dropped off my kids at the High school this morning and gave you a wave. I love reading your blog! I am an Occupational Therapist and find everything that you are doing very interesting. If you ever see a middle age lady beeping or waving at you in town as you’re cycling….thats me cheering you on. What a great goal! You can do it Tim!

So I’m trying to dedicate 1 or 2 days a week to my thesis/movie. That is proving harder than I think it should; with blogging and trying to build a business.

I’m finally starting to do color correct. (see two shots below) I’m only through 3 scenes of 25-30. The problem is that, while I was taught how to color correct, until now I haven’t need to. Therefore, I’m actually getting my ‘eye for it’ now. That means in order to not forget it, I need to spend a few days in-a-row on it; very hard with a disability that makes everything take 3-4 times as long.

Please note: This film will be for festivals before the public sees it.

Josephine Scharf I can see how learning how to color correct would take a lot of practice….it’s a bit subjective……

What is the movie about?

Erin Skotarczak I agree that color correcting is subjective. I prefer the warmer light of your after pictures so I think you and I have the same preference. I do not shoot video- only photographs. Keep at it Tim. Looks great!

The business appear to slowly be picking up a bit. I’ve got 3 ‘projects’ under my roof at the moment and I may have some leads.

Working from home has some advantages: can’t beat the commute, set my own hours & wearing what i want. After lunch i’ll go bicycling, since I couldn’t go this morning.

The disadvantage, yes there are some: lots of distractions, self-discipline, and (a big one) I’m not seeing other people.

Man, the support I got last week was pretty sweet, doing it in and of itself was surprisingly fun. I have to give a shout-out to my community. For years they have supported me in my bicycling when I needed help. Last week I shared Thursday’s post about my bicycling (btw, there is another part of that story i’ll share sometime) on our community forum, that post had over 1000 ‘reached’ because of it. This really could turn in to something. Thanks.

The knee is still swollen however I am cleared to bike. I did a short bike ride down to the football game Friday, and did 14.95mi, with a ‘ride’ time of 2hrs 2min. Nice thing about being extremely active is that I only need one or two ‘rehab’ rides, rehab being a relative term, until I’m back at my normal level.

If I was in school, this week’s updates would follow the paragraph model. Which makes this the conclusion. However, I am out of school and never liked writing. So it isn’t that.

What can you expect from this blog now? I wish I could tell you for sure. I’m thinking some stuff about my bicycling. Maybe some about film and starting a small business. I going to try to keep this from being an extra way to promote Studio461. You also won’t see anything political on here.

I’ve saved my favorite bit of ‘update news’ for last. *** Note: There is one more for tomorrow.

Most of you know that I do ‘something’ involving a bike…well it’s really a trike. But, who’d say, ”I’m going tricycling?” Anyway, I am a real cyclist. I bike year-round, 20 degrees is my minimum.

My goal has been to go coast to coast one day. Now that I’m out of school, I’m stepping up my training. I started the summer 10mi a day, 2-3 days a week. Trying to end the summer at 20mi per days 4-5 days a week. I’ll try to maintain that throughout the winter. Next summer, 30mi. The next 40mi…

For those who normally see me bicycling around town, do not be alarmed if I disappear from the town streets. Once I pass 19mi, I’m going to switch to the Great Swamp (you can only do so much in 3sq miles).

Update today- I haven’t rode since Labor Day due to a swollen knee. We don’t know why it swelled up. I have been feeling dizzy and not the best since then. I typically don’t feel good when I don’t exorcise. Hopefully, the doctor drains it tomorrow and that’s the end of it.

Some of you may be wondering by now ‘where does the bicycling come in?’ Sorry, but that’s for tomorrow.

What have I spent my summer doing? June and July were great and I learned a lot… I started the month of August off helping out at the camp my family has been going to for years for families affected by disabilities put on by ”Joni and Friends”. Right after that the four of us (mom, dad, my brother Jeff, and I) went to Iceland for a week. It was great.

After I got back, I started to finalize the movie I made as my thesis. We didn’t quite get it done. I fixed a few video issue, and still need to color it. The main issues were with the audio. I had to fix a few general issues, and level the volume, which is harder than you think. Hopefully as you read this my composure is starting to write some music for it???

For those of you who are hoping to get a to see it when it’s done, I’m afraid that only a very few people will see it soon. My goal is to take it to festivals first.

Ok. So I just graduated college and going straight into working for myself…for now. Studio461 is opening back up for now. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it has been my video conversion business for 7 and a half years. Sadly I let it die, which my friend specifically told me not to let happen. (sorry Chuck). That is to be revamped, with a new marketing and communication strategy…

I’ve talked with a friend who does social marketing advising for a living as well as subscribed to Linkedin’s Marketing emails. I’ve learned that I need to start posting more. While I am a product of this tech era, I don’t seem to have that drive to post even once a week. Do people really want to know whenever I see a spider web?

Derek Shields

Derek Shields Great news about re-opening Studio461! It’s common in business to fall off the bike; what’s important is to get back on the bike and learn from it.

Personally I don’t care a great deal about you seeing a spider web. But I do care about how you FEEL about seeing the spider web and how it relates to your strategy, work or life. Hope that makes sense!

Wow. So I’ve needed to update people for 4 to 5 months now. And if you’ve been following “Tim’s blog” (the previous name for this blog), you know I’m not a blogger or writer of any kind. But…’in a way’ hopefully that will change a little right now.

I’m going to post part of my update each day this week just to get a ‘running start’. I don’t promise I’ll start posting daily or as long as these (these are already pre-written). However, it is always easier to get motivated if people provide feedback.
